"Thank you ever so much for speaking to us today. Your presentation was very insightful and hit upon the important topics I hoped you would. We had some very positive dialogue in classes later. You are an excellent spokeswoman and I thank you for sharing with our students. I enjoyed meeting you and am grateful that you are willing to help our students learn."

"Women of the Word take a field trip On Saturday, October 31, ladies from the Women of the Word T.G.I.W! class visited the Islamic Center of Des Moines. We are currently reading "The Faith Club" about three women, a Christian, a Jew, and a Muslim, who form a bond of friendship as they explore the similarities and differences amongst the three faiths.
We decided an educational "field trip" was in order to reach out in person to the other faiths to learn about them first hand, rather than simply from a book. We were graciously met by Ihsan Yaseen, a Palestinian Muslim member of the center, who moved to the United States 13 years ago. She helped us to understand her day to day life as a practicing Muslim woman with four children and the decisions she faces on behalf of herself and her children regarding their faith.
We were also honored to have the president of the center, Luai Amro, join us and provide perspective on living as a Muslim in America. He has lived in the US for over 20 years and gave us insight to the Quran, the Muslim holy book, and the relationship of Muslims with God. We all came away feeling more educated about the Islamic faith and blessed to have been so warmly received."
